The prodigal son returns! Gareth Bale who made his name at Spurs, and then won it all, has finally returned home. Still one of the most talented players in the game, he is one of the few true footballing superstars in the game.
Even though his stock has diminished in the last few years, none can argue, as Zidane himself pointed out, that his contributions have been immense. His skill is sharp, but injuries and favour have robbed him of game time.
But what Tottenham want, is not one of the best players in the world. Sure, we could use that, but the effect of Bale is less footballing and something more abstract.
After the previous season, we were in need of a lift. An event which could somehow unite the football club once again, after the painful separation from Poch. Spurs have a plan with Jose, but many Spurs fans were falling out of love. The same longing, but perhaps little expectation. What Gareth brings back is just that.
The reunion with one of our own, Bale gives us a huge lift in optimism and the expectancy around Spurs. I doubt any Spurs fans would care if he plays only 10 games this season. What’s more important is the drive and expectancy even the players would have of seeing Gareth Frank Bale walk into the dressing room. Playing with more of the best, with superstars coming in to grace the field once again.
The lift to fans is indescribable. So much positivity, already dreaming of one of the English league’s most dangerous trios. There is hope and expectation. It is this positive feeling which brings joy to the supporters. And add to this the belief that we will be taking home a cup, some cup, but certainly some silverware.
Make no mistake, this is one of the biggest signings for Spurs in recent years, but perhaps not completely for sporting reasons. Our new number 3 would be a better signing if only for the on field functional difference in a problem area, but Gareth Bale is much much more. And oh, his fair bit of screamers always help!
