2nd Nov’21, The official club statement was out which gave glimpses of hope for all the spurs fans across the world: We are delighted to announce the appointment of Antonio Conte as our Head Coach on a contract until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend. Conte, A serial Winner!!! He has been remarkably consistent across his top-level career, emerging with a win percentage in the mid-60s from all three of the big clubs he has managed. Antonio has won 4 league titles in Serie A, including a hat-trick of Scudettos with Juventus and the recent one with Inter Milan, the Premier League title with Chelsea and also managed Italy, leading the Azzurri to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016..
Nuno Espirito Santo, a good manager but a wrong man at the wrong time for Spurs.
The 47-year-old began the league season in a spectacular fashion by guiding Tottenham to three straight victories against Manchester City, Wolves and Watford which made the club sit top of the table and of course he won the Manager of the Month Aug’21. But the axe started hanging on his head when the results have tailed off with Spurs picking up just two wins in seven league games. Every Single spur fan was focusing on Levy’s commitment which he conveyed to all during May’ 21. Levy added that we are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known – free-flowing, attacking and entertaining – whilst continuing to embrace our desire to see young players flourish from our Academy alongside experienced talent. But Nuno’s team has been criticized for scoring just nine goals in 10 league games, the joint-second lowest in the league. Nuno era ends in 4 months when the club relieved him from all responsibilities just after the 3-0 defeat at Home against Manchester United.
Conte is one of the most decorated managers of his generation, his tactics and strategies impressing and wowing the world for several years now. The players in the Italy team nicknamed him The Godfather. that means when he talks, you listen. You do what he says and you don’t argue-quoting the words from Leonardo Bonucci. Yes, he is demanding. He wants the players to constantly press on the pitch and will be screaming at them from the touchline.
Beginning of his Managerial career with Bari, Conte used to make 4-2-4 formation and improvised himself throughout his career to reach his famous 3-5-2 formation. Three ball-playing center backs, a deep-lying play maker , two ball-winning advanced energetic midfielders and two center forwards. The two wing-backs play the crucial role in the system to attack with 3-3-4 and dropping back defensively to 5-3-2 formation. He demands hard work, aggression and intensity from every single player in his team. A 3-5-2 system may actually be well suited to the players Conte inherits. Certainly, Sergio Reguilon and Royal Emerson will offer plenty of thrust as wing-backs while playing three center backs ought to offer Spurs more license to field Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in the same side. Upfront, there are few partnerships with quite the same history of combined excellence as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.
Antonio says- “My coaching philosophy is very simple: to play good football and attractive football for our fans with passion. To have a team stable, not up and down. The fans deserve to have a competitive team with a will to fight.” Conte has quickly understood Spurs. He says: “You must have vision. This club has a great vision outside of the pitch. Now we must start having a vision on the pitch. This is important if we want to win.”
Conte’s biggest challenge is to restore the stability that could propel spurs back to a much stronger place. All eyes to Goodison Park where Conte’s Tottenham Premier League Era begins. #COYS
