We have been fortunate to have seen quite a few classy defenders trot around White Hart Lane. One quite at the top of that list is our very own Toby. The Belgian Rolls Royce is simply a treat to watch. 

Toby, ‘the lord of the pings’ has been with us since what seems like forever. He was a good defender before Spurs, but became simply outstanding during his time with Poch. He can still be counted as one of the best in the league, if not the world- he once went 600 minutes without committing a foul.

Toby is a silent player, quietly going about his work.

He commands his area with a quiet elegance. One of those with the perfect balance of changing the pace of the game as per the type of game, time in the game, and the manager commanding others. 

His presence has helped settle Sanchez and Dier, often not being able to be his elegant best to be able to sacrifice for his partner (can we make Super Jan and Toby go back in time?)
